Meet Our Home Chef: Daphne

Hello Tummy Heroes and Urban Home Chef’s,

In this section, we are going to cover yet another story of a passionate home chef Daphne.

Home Chef Daphne

How her journey started

My aunt used to be the one who always bakes for most of our family birthdays and my kids were blessed with so many of her custom bakes since young. When she had to leave to work overseas many years back, I started to venture into baking, so that my kids and family could continue to enjoy home-baked cakes – that was how my baking journey began.

I fell in love with baking and did that for a few good years but slowed down when work demand increased. It was during circuit breaker when my neighbours & aunt started to encourage me to bake more again, and that was when I decided to try bread making again. From a few successful bakes to more, I started exploring adventurous ones. I contemplated for a while as I wasn’t sure if I could manage baking with a full-time job, but eventually, I managed to work out my schedule and accepted to sell them.

I think I have sold close to at least 150 bears over a few months before stopping to explore other designs. In between and now I still do receive requests for it and friends have been encouraging me to start my own bakery. I shifted the thought aside as setting up & maintaining a bakery involves huge commitments, but at the back of my mind I was hoping & seeking a more comfortable avenue, and that was when someone from Urban Tummy approached me that I thought I should give this a try!

So here I am with the bears again and hope that I can bring more happy bakes to everyone.

Her specialities and Favourite dishes

I bake various bread but one of the best was the Sausage Bear Bread which I received many purchase requests from friends, families and strangers.

I was so overwhelmed with joy when customers shared photos of their happy kids when they received the bears. Some customers bought it for their parents who love bread, and they were beaming with a smile when they received it! That was really what kept me going – the thought of bringing joy to others through my bakes is the real motivation behind Daffybakez.”

Her tip to fellow Chefs!

“If your passion or talent brings someone joy then make sure you pursue it”
